6 weeks post hip replacement surgery update….
Yes, it is slower than it was 12 years ago but only by a week, but the anti-inflammatory plan is what is making my recovery much easier..Today, a lot of that ache that was there has subsided.
If it were not for the anti-inflammatory plan, this would be even longer of a recovery! Probably 3 weeks later, not 1. Post-hip replacement is still a challenge, but getting through quicker than most – I even helped others while I am recovering:
I had a client last night, their surgery is in a month. After just 2 weeks – they can breath AND the migraines have stopped. And the hip feels better, too! They think it is from walking regularly, but it IS because we replaced 2 inflammatory foods! “This is for SURE my new normal! I am NOT going back to eating like I was before. I feel too good right now!”

I officially started PT (physical therapy) yesterday although I feel like I have been doing PT for more like 5+ years. Before hip replacement surgery, I did what I did so I could be somewhat functional!
Now, those exercises aided in my recovery. The new PT exercises are new for now, and 2 are refined with slight repositioning, and added resistance with a band + a hold for 5-10 seconds… can you say ‘Ouch!”?

Now, what am I doing 6 weeks post hip replacement surgery at 59 years old:
I can ride my bike trainer for 40-50 minutes. But now with more PT, I will keep it about that. I feel like my endurance stinks as does my power, but that too will come back once I can get these hips working right and can add back those squats, walking lunges, leg press, etc. 6 weeks off did make a difference. And it feels like 6 months right now and that is a long road back! But I am determined to regain what was lost!! #musclememory right??
I am still sleeping some crazy amounts like 9-10 hours per night. But if my body says sleep, I listen.
I can walk a mile – will try a mile today without that cane. I did do .7 miles yesterday without it.
I am back to teaching swim lessons and can stand/ walk for 2 x 30 min lessons. But still using the cane as needed as the pavement is graded and still bothers my hip.
I am swimming again! and I started lifting weights too. Mostly upper body for now. but so good to be doing those again!
I still have some numbness and swelling near the incision, plus part of my leg feels bruised – doc says it is all normal after the hip replacement surgery, but I did not have this on my first one. Based on my doctor, it will go away any time between 2-6 months. I really only notice the bruising feeling down my leg when I am sleeping on that right side…it wakes me up enough that I have to turn over. For now, doc said it is okay for me to keep using the Biofreeze (the CVS generic brand) and that has helped with circulation and the pain, but not all night long.
I believe I need either someone to pray over me, or I need to ask for the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name, to come and alleviate that bruising, and allow my leg to come alive! and restore it back to normal… Prayer helped me before the surgery, during and after. Now I just have to ask someone to pray for me and me, continue the PT and continue using the Biofreeze, maybe even massage it daily.
Oh, I can put my socks on while standing! not perfect yet and sometimes my diaphragm cramps….yup, imbalance of muscles being utilized.
But overall, doc is happy, so I am happy. But really, I want to still skip, dance, sing God’s praises (I guess I can do that now!) and run again. But patience in recovery is what I need to focus on, not that end point yet.
PT guy doesn’t thinks I was better than most with range of motion and strength, although the imbalances are for sure present…and I can feel them. Strangely, PT only wants to get you back to 85% to normal…i want to get back to 115% of normal….shocking I want that! lol
So I will do my PT exercises, and I for sure will stay on the anti-inflammatory plan because then my body will recover faster – and at 59, all the help I can get is going towards recovery! Inflammation from food need not be an added hinderance, although I did buy some stroop waffles – Ouch my hips were so stiff the next day! Not buying those again – it was the sugar and wheat double whammy. So blessed I can feel the difference so then I can choose differently!
I think that is all for today’s update!
Check out the anti-inflammatory plan and let’s get you started especially if you have arthritis pain. What you eat does matter!. So let’s lower the inflammation through food, so you can be like that one client about – 2 weeks and she can walk better, her migraines are gone and her hip is less achy! Or schedule a chat! and we’ll discuss what is going on with you and see if an anti-inflammatory plan will help with your pre-hip replacement or post-joint replacement pains. Then we can help you implement that anti-inflammatory plan with ease…and watch as the pain melts away.
