First full day of the detox plan with the anti-inflammatory twist, and so far so good! It is almost 3 PM and I have not needed any pain killers. Hmm, maybe there really is a way to be pain free with diet alone?? I am going to find out where this is just coincidence or whether it really can happen! I am now only allowed to take Tylenol for my pain, which does nothing for me unless it is laced with codeine. And i need a prescription for that which the doctors do not give you before surgery. Luckily, I do actually have some imported from England….but don’t tell anyone. I just hope I do not have to use it or use it sparingly as it can be addictive after 3 days.
I started the day off with a cup of coffee – 1 cup only with some local honey in it. (sugar is inflammatory, as I found out after the holidays when my hip was killing me! But it was an awesome homemade sweet potato cheesecake). Honey has not been an issue but then I only use 1/2 tspn if that. Next I hopped onto the bike trainer in the basement, and when I was finished, rewarded myself with a lovely vegetable juicing cocktail with daikon radish (and the greens), 1 inch of ginger, 2 turmeric roots, a large beet, collard greens (6 leaves), lemon and a small apple. WOW, did that have a zing to it. Almost couldn’t drink it and added some of my homemade kombucha to the second half to cut the zing. Added some vegan protein powder for recovery purposes, too and off I went to Pre-Admissions and Cardiologist Appointments for my surgery in 2 weeks.
Knowing it is a 5 hour process, I had to pack my snacks with me. More juice from last night’s juicing class, raw cashes, banana, and my veggie flatbreads (recipe is in the Detox For Athletes version). I added more rosemary than usual as rosemary is also anti-inflammatory! By the time I got back with a clear bill of health, well, except the degenerative hip of course, I just wanted some tea.
The rest of the day should be interesting to see if I might need to make either another juice with a double dose of turmeric root, or whether the morning does is enough. More tomorrow, as we see how this detox plan with an anti-inflammatory twist progresses. So far, Day 1 is pretty good!
I will be able to speak from experience as to whether diet does really matter in controlling pain. So far, I would say YES! You do have to be diligent, but the rewards of minimal pain I think are worth it.
