Where do you find joy? Often we need to find joy to increase our health. Sometimes the health symptoms are our body’s way of telling us something needs a change.
Yesterday I was working with a client yesterday who was questioning why they had to have sugar after meals or crave something sweet.
We talked about the possibilities:
– feeling they need a reward.
– feeling deprived
– feeling like that may be the only sweet thing in life right now
– mismanaging the blood sugar
– it was a pattern from childhood
We also discussed fighting the rules or being a rebel – and yup. they admitted being a total rebel as a child!
They had a hard time making the connection that anything related to that would be causing the stomach pain or feeling their belly in knots.Yet the body stores our emotional experiences. Maybe she is fighting against her own self and forgetting to honor her own self so her stomach is in knots hope she unravels the issue…And in this case, they are fighting against themselves and not finding joy in their life.
So the sweets seem to do the trick …temporarily.
So the sweets seem to do the trick …temporarily.
As we continued the discussion, the idea of putting joy back into their life kept coming up.
– riding my bike
– doing things with other people
– getting out of the house to meet others. I even go to the baseball games, not because I like baseball, but I get to talk to people there!
And I asked – What is keeping you from doing these things? Especially riding your bike as your eyes lit up as you talked about that!
“I am scared I will fall off my bike since I have those clip-in pedals and I am 30 pounds heavier than I was years ago when I rode.”
So we worked through riding the bike, and just making time for the joy of riding without thinking about the distance. just go play! (They loved that idea!)
‘Hmm, I am getting the message loud and clear!’
And as we were leaving, we were discussing the chalk drawings on my driveway by the neighbors kids.
“I gave them permission years ago to draw on it so they can “expand their playground.”
and my client responded “That is it – I need to expand my playground! Thank you!“
So I ask you – how are you expanding your playground?? So you can find more joy?
If you are struggling with this, let’s set up a chat or a session so we can get to the underlying reasons why you are not including joy in your life and how you can start reconnecting to your joy and your next level of health with the Be Whole program.
