I used to love using lotion. When I had my hip replacement several years ago, I had gone on an anti-inflammatory nutrition plan. I also had to eliminate a lot of the skin care products and lotions as they also had inflammatory ingredients like petroleum based oils or perfumes (versus essential oils). I switched to shea butter…but that was too thick. It worked for really dry spots and my cuticles, but hard to get dressed when the butter sits on the skin and you don’t want it on your clothes!
Then I discovered fractionated coconut oil. Wow, what a difference.
Fractionated coconut oil doesn’t have an odor. It is thin almost like water in consistency.
And it worked to nourish my skin.
Now, I really don’t want to smell like Hawaiian Tropics so usually avoid most things coconut oil. And in winter, coconut oils is pretty much a solid, so hard to use. Recently I got some Maple Holistics 100% Coconut Oil which is Therapeutic grade, too. Bonus!
It has a very light texture – almost silky. You don’t need a lot and it is not actually oily. It is easily absorbed (which I love so my clothes don’t get icky and greasy or stick to me) and it works well after I go to the pool for a swim.
Since the fractionated coconut oil is colorless and odorless – it literally smells like nothing!
As the back of label indicates (photo below on right), fractionated oil has been heated in a refining process.
According to OrganicFacts.org:
“Fractionated coconut oil is a fraction of coconut oil where the other fatty acids are separated from the oil for different uses. It is predominantly composed of saturated fatty acids, and it is rich in medium-chain fatty acids.”
I can add whatever essential oils blend or perfume after applying it liberally to my arms and legs.
Check out Maple Holistic’s page and pick yourself up a bottle. They have one with a pump, too!
It is a good price point and it will last a good long while since you need less oil than you do lotion! I have had it for 1 month and seems I just put a dent into it. With nothing but coconut oil, you don’t have to worry that you are putting harmful ingredients or preservatives onto your skin (which do get absorbed into the body).
If you have never tried fractionated coconut oil as a skin conditioner or part of your skin care regiment, I would definitely get this Maple Holistic 100% coconut oil as your first to try. It will not disappoint!
They have a chock full of other holistic skin and hair care items, too. Definitely would try them if you like the coconut oil like I did. And let me know if you did try it!
If you do want to add some essential oils, feel free to contact me to help you choose one, or go here to find the one that resonates with you best. Lavender is always a favorite, but recently I put lavender with Geranium and wow, such a cool combo! I can also make a 1 or 2 ml vial of a custom blend, too.
NOTE: If you have a sensitivity to coconuts or any allergies, do not try this. It is still an oil from coconuts.
