Do you choose your own happiness or do you wait for happiness to happen as a result of your situation?
This is conditional happiness and it can you keep in a pattern of dishonoring your own needs, using food for comfort or just plain seeing the negativity in a situation and the anxiety & dread that goes along with it.
I had a client this week who decided to come in to work with me and not wait until his situation changed to start taking care of himself.
By the end of the session this week, it was clear he (and we) can choose to be happy regardless of our situation rather than waiting to be happy when a situation finally changes.
It isn’t necessarily easy to do yet it is easy to do once you start to do it. It helps to minimize stress, increase enjoyment and increase digestion!
I shared a breathing technique with him and some Practical Steps To Mindful Eating practices which included the breathing so he could be present with his meal rather than wolfing food down unconsciously and feeling guilty because lunch was a big bag of peanut M&Ms.
We’ve all done this and we can all choose to relax before our meals, be present for the meal and enjoy what we have that much more, plus we will actually digest the foods better, too as we stay present. It was really hard when I had to do it 20+ years ago. But once I noticed a difference, I could go back to unconscious eating anymore.
We found that part of him that said ‘yes, I can choose better for me now!’ rather than excuses of not enough time to plan, or no time to eat or whatever.
It’s time now to bring some joy into a crappy situation and the situation or perspective of the situation will change. You will be able to choose happiness no matter what is going on. And that happiness is something only you can define for yourself. Choose what makes you happy. And if you cannot, then it is time to walk away from that or get someone else to either do it with you or do it for you. (although no one can chew your food for you unless you are eating baby food! LOL)
It applies to life not just how or what you eat.
As you choose slow down and breathe to be present, as you seek and find more happiness, you will take care if yourself differently. You may realize the choices you are making may not truly be supporting your happiness. And you can change that! You can choose happiness and yes, you deserve happiness to.

I went outside and rode my bike and stopped to chat with Lyn and Vince who were taking their walk. It always makes me smile and happy to move and today was the day I went to ride my bike.
