Do you think about food to the point that it is food noise?
Food noise is a thing! But it doesn’t have to be noise or a nagging irritation. It doesn’t have to be something you need to control or gain control over – it is about uncovering and working through the real emotional issue underneath the trigger.
I think about food all day. I think about what I need to make, cook, pack, take with me and at what time. It is just what I do. And prepare for those meals, but don’t obsess over them because I have a healthy relationship with my body, my food and my self and with God.
I think about my next meals all the time but it isn’t noise anymore. How did the noise go away? I healed the wounded memories…it is those wounded memories that trigger the food noise. If left unaddressed, food noise becomes really loud and can also trigger emotional eating, binge eating, shame and self-loathing. It becomes a vicious cycle of internal unrest.
And there is a way to freedom from food noise. Here is a simple example.
I worked with 2 clients this weekend (thank you God for zoom!) who had anxiety issues triggering binge eating behavior and food noise. It also triggered inability to move forward, almost feeling paralyzed.
The only way to turn that off is to uncover the trigger, and heal it, work through it. Burying or ignoring it will be like the ball you shove under water…it just comes back at you and sometimes feels bigger than before.
In both cases, as I started asking questions and based on those questions, a memory from childhood came to mind. So we discussed, and uncovered the lies they came to believe such as
– I have to figure this out myself
– I am unlovable as I am
– I will never be capable of (fill in the blank ____)
– I am fat and I just have to accept that as there is nothing I can do about it. My whole family is big.
One client it was a memory of being teased by their sister growing up.
The other client it was a memory between 4-5 grade which triggered the anxiety, forcing them to believe they were so smart, they had to figure it (the problem) all by them self.
Then we came up with a way to work thru these memories which includes my formula or forgive, repent and pray:
Breathe deeply to ground yourself and get out of your head.
Ask God what is really happening? Assess the situation and what is really going on. Why are you triggered? Why does it bother you?
Ask God what to do next. Do what He says.
Then forgive those who hurt you. Forgive yourself for agreeing with the lie or for holding resentment or judgement. Jesus said ‘Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.’ Luke 23;34
Repent if needed for holding judgement or reacting negatively. John The Baptist said “Repent for the Kingdom is at hand.” Matthew 3:2 This was before Jesus started his ministry.
Then pray for a blessing to all involved. “love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you”. Matthew 5:44
I often pray with the client and ask Jesus to convert that memory into good and ask for a blessing to all involved.
When we return to the memory… the memory stays, but all the negativity and hurt associated with it is gone. Praise God!
This works for Christians and non-Christians alike. It is simple. It is effective, and works better when we add the prayer at the end. But either way, the food noise subsides because the trigger has been healed.
So rather than noise, you find peace in body mind and soul. Your relationship with self, with food and with others also changes all for the better. At one time, I did have terrible food noise myself. But once I worked through the wounded memories, the noise became a whisper.
Let me know if you want some help with that as I just helped many with their food noise and anxiety issues which were related to unresolved childhood wounds. The food noise can become a whisper so you can experience freedom and joy of your body, your food and your life.
Let’s help you find peace and joy over the noise. Schedule a chat and we can get you started or check out the inner healing page to see if you want to work on your own wounded memory healing journey. If it is food noise, then we probably need a combo of nutrition and inner healing in the Be Whole program.
