Are you using food for love?
In my Path To Body Balance class this past week, we worked on connecting with what it is we love. To honor what our body’s needs are as a result. Then we can stop using food for love.
Near the end of the call, I asked everyone to ponder these questions when they are eating.
What food choices are you making?
Does the food bring you joy?
Are you enjoying eating it?
Does it have flavor? If not, can you add some with spices or something else?
Can you make the surroundings more joyful?
Are you eating just because it is there?
Are you getting nourishment for your heart and soul through eating?
Or are you using food to provide you love?
Are you being mindful when you eat?
If you choose more foods with love, choose activities you love (It is “movement” you love, not “exercise” btw), people you love, etc, then you not seek food to give you love and support. You will not judge the food as good or bad, it will just be a choice of food.
I know this seems ‘out there’, but as you choose more love, joy and fun, your heart expands with love and joy from within. You do not seek this from the exterior due to overwhelm, lack of control or frustration because your needs are not being met.
I know two years ago, I was fighting my weight and the message I was intuitively getting was I was not having fun. So cravings for chocolate were crazy, my weight was up and I hadn’t changed how I eat – I was just 8 pounds heavier. Once I found more fun, joy and love, the weight started to drop with out consciously changing what I ate.
So try this week to choose your foods with love. See if you notice your eating change and your weight go down.
Eat your food with love.
Take the time to really enjoy each morsel and every bite.
Do what you can to make eating a loving experience. Remove the distractions so you can focus on really eating and enjoying your meals.
You may find you eat less because you are not mindlessly eating.
You may feel full sooner as the meal is now more satisfying!
This is how we can nourish the heart and soul through our food. And stop using food to feel love from our food.
